We started out with teaching kids at a Minority High School in Lijiang about some traditional American holidays like Thanksgiving and Halloween (although most of the time we ended up singing lots of American songs that they knew and taught us a few traditional Chinese songs as well). We also got to play a big game of pickup soccer during their breaks between classes which was so much fun!
Then we headed to Kunming to begin building a playground for the local migrant kids. We got to painted lots of cool designs on tires, stack them up and fill them with cement to use as a climbing structure and base for slides. We also cut and sanded lots of wood to finish building the outside structure of the playground. And the best part was the local kids came and helped us the entire time. Lots of times it hard to know if the work you're doing is good or actually causing harm to the community. But instead of just coming in and building it, these kids can now look at the playground and know that they were a part of building this for themselves and their own community.
